![]() The 495,000-square-foot Skyplex is designed to include upscale arcading, simulators, rock climbing, bars, restaurants and retail, officials say. Developers expect to break ground in 2015 and open for business in 2017. The attraction will be built near the intersection of International Drive and Sand Lake Road. “It is an absolute cutting-edge engineering marvel that will deliver pure adrenaline unlike any roller coaster in the world today.” "Skyscraper will not only take riders higher than ever before, but also introduce one thrill right after the next – there’s no ‘down time’ on this four-minute coaster experience,” said Michael Kitchen, president of US Thrill Rides. Once near the ground, the track turns and goes around the edge of the Skyplex structure. Glimpses of International Drive sites, including the under-construction Orlando Eye observation wheel, can be caught. The route down is a roundabout path that includes corkscrew moves along with sudden drops and unexpected elevations. Today US Thrill Rides has announced that they will be partnering with Intamin Amusement Rides as the company will be the supplier of the huge new 500 + foot tall Skyscraper. The simulation shows blue cars steadily going up a red track that surrounds the white tower capped by an observation deck. “This is a very important milestone for the development team,” says Joshua Wallack, one of the principle developers of the $460 million dollar Skyplex project in Orlando, FL. “After over a year of extensive design and engineering work focusing on the recordbreaking track layout and rider experience, as well as an extensive industry review, we are very excited to announce the supply contract award to Intamin, one of the world’s premier roller coaster manufacturers.” “We could not be more pleased to have Intamin and International Amusements Inc. The Skyscraper at Skyplex, the tower coaster to be built not far from the soon-to-open Orlando Eye 425-foot ferris wheel, will alter the Orlando skyline dramatically. ![]() On board to manufacture the ride component of the Polercoaster (Skyscraper) attraction here in our own backyard,” says Orlando, FL based Bill Kitchen, founder of US Thrill Rides and inventor of the Polercoaster. We are proud to have a assembled such a world-class team to build this icon.” “Intamin has a very well known reputation in building record-breaking rollercoasters. Intamin was the manufacturer of the now record breaking coaster, Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure. The coaster will be a massive 570 feet tall and will be over a mile long. The coaster will feature speeds of over 50 MPH and will feature full inversions, twists and turns, higher than any other coaster in existence. Skyscraper will be joined by a huge drop tower measuring 450 feet tall, a zip line, hotel, and massive parking garage. That’s not even including the huge retail and nightlife experiences that will also be in the huge complex. Originally, the coaster was announced in partnership with S&S Worldwide in 2013. The coaster looked as if it was going to be a larger version of the S&S Worldwide El Loco, which opened at Adventuredome in Las Vegas in 2014.Ĭonstruction on the project is expected to start this fall, with a completion date of Spring 2018.Most roller coasters take you on a climbing, diving, looping trail around a track that takes a good chunk of lot space. Instead, it does the same stomach-turning moves as other roller coasters around a track that stretches vertically to heights reaching 535 feet.Ĭreated by US Thrill Rides for a new entertainment facility called Skyplex in Orlando, the “vertical” roller coaster will feature climbs, dives, twists, loops, and inversions along the perimeter of the hulking tower, creating a vertical riding experience that’s very different from anything else currently available across theme parks and amusement facilities. Of course, it will still end up with you wanting to expel your lunch through your mouth, but, at least, the path to get there will be something fresh.īecause of the smaller riding space on the Skyscraper, the cars will be small. The current models are limited to two rows of four seats, with a maximum of three cars expected to be on the track at the same time. Each ride will last around four minutes, which is, pretty much, standard for the current generation of big-draw roller coaster rides. The peak of the tower will have a circular observation deck, where visitors can admire a view of the surrounding area from a 500-foot giant’s point of view. Skyplex, which will host the Skyscraper, is expected to break ground in 2015, although the ride itself won’t be available until 2017. The entire facility, which covers half a million square feet, will house an extensive entertainment complex that includes rides, restaurants, bars, gaming centers, and retail stores.
